Hi! My name is Zeke, and I’m an American who’s lived in Moscow for the past three years, working as an English teacher, translator, and journalist. I have experience teaching both adults and children and am happy to take on pupils of any age or ability level. In my teaching practice, I create a custom program for each student, designing lessons and activities that develop the particular skills desired by the student—with different textbooks, reading materials, films, exercises and games chosen for each course. I have created courses for those who only knew “Hello” and “How are you?” before our lessons; for those who wanted to improve their English from beginner to intermediate and from intermediate to advanced; and for business people who wanted to increase their knowledge of business terminology and usage. I am very familiar with economic vocabulary having worked as an editor at The Moscow Times, a newspaper known for its extensive business coverage.
Having studied literature and writing at university in addition to working as an editor and a writer, I have a detailed understanding of the structure of English and how to use the language not only correctly but also beautifully. And as someone who loves to chat, I can help you greatly improve your speaking ability! I also place an emphasis on selecting materials that relate to students’ interests, in order to engage you on a level that goes beyond just learning English. So if you need to advance your knowledge of business English, we might read the latest Wall Street Journal reports about current market trends, and if you’re interested in ecology, we may watch Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth”—in addition to using textbook exercises to reinforce your comprehension of linguistic concepts and grammatical constructions.
And while I am extremely serious about helping my students improve their English, I also love to have fun and am convinced that good English lessons should be enjoyable as well as educational. You WILL delight in learning about gerunds, banking vocabulary, or even the dreaded perfect tense!
I very much look forward to working with you to help take your English ability to new heights.
